The year of 2016 started with a bang. I decided it was time to create a little home studio. I cleared out my basement and created a cozy little studio and started accepting newborns.
I have known for a long time that newborn photography is a passion of mine. It takes incredible amount of patience to be a newborn photographer. The little ones tend to be very wiggly. If not done right, you will end up with a photo of a baby all sprawled out and screaming. Thankfully I took quite a bit of time to learn and take every precaution I can take for a safe and enjoyable experience for the wee ones.
I am incredibly happy I took this leap in my business as I love every minute where I get to photograph your precious baby.
Having a studio opened up a lot of options for me. I was now able to offer mini studio sessions for the ones who weren’t ready for a full session yet. And weather doesn’t always allow us to be outside.
I found this benefit babies from 3 -18 months. As soon as they are walking and running confidently, the outdoors are much better. Even if it is a little chilly.
I found that the most common age to photograph is 3 year old and up. The younger crowd is difficult to capture, but oh so necessary! A good professional photographer not only educates themselves on photographic techniques and post processing methods, but also child development
Even though this is not really business related but I still consider it a life event. We added a puppy to our family. Granted he is very photogenic and plain adorable. Chewie has added a lot to our family dynamic and the kids can’t think of a life without him.
Some of his greatest joy is to steal a toy from the kids, then make them chase him around the house. He thoroughly enjoys running with the kids outside on a hiking trail, sticking his nose deep into the snow and finally, after a day filled with fun. Lying upside down on the sofa after the kids are in bed.
This change in our family dynamic has spurred me to encourage people to do more photos of them and their pets. Our pets give us such joy and happiness for the short time they are here. We need to capture those memories as they are an important part of our family.
In the same way as newborn photography is my passion, so is family photography. I love capturing the bond between a parent and a child, or the bond between siblings. Silly or sweet. Our children grow up so fast. We need to capture this crazy journey.
I had a great year and I love each and every one of my family that allowed me to participate in their lives for a day.
