The demand for digital images is very high right now. You have better control and you can purchase your own prints instead of purchasing them from the photographer at an over priced rate. This does apply in some cases. Some photographers will sell you prints from Walmart. Others, sell you prints from professional print labs that without a doubt offer higher quality products.
I assume your next question is; Why wouldn’t I just go to the same labs and print my own prints and wall art for lower price? Well, the answer is; You can’t. Those labs are available for photographers only. They screen their clients before they approve their status as a customer. I go through Millers Lab. I find their prints and products to be true to the original file and their quality is impeccable.
Before I chose to offer prints, I decided to do a print quality test. I tested Millers lab, Walmart, Costco and Mpix.com. The results were at a no surprise in Millers labs favor. When you come to my studio you can view a folder with samples of those prints. See for yourself.
Here’s the original digital file
Here are my print samples.
Let’s analyze the samples:
Millers Lab: Did a great job, they stayed truest to the original colors, paper quality is great.
Walmart: They de-saturated the image, took some of the colors away and over sharpened.
CostCo: They made the image darker than it is, increased shadows and de-saturated the colors.
Mpix.com: They added a lot of red to the image and again, made it darker than it is.
Let’s look at another sample, this time an outdoor natural light image with strong colors.
This is the original digital file. Absolutely adorable little thing with sparkly blue eyes.
Here is how the print companies did:
Let’s analyze the samples:
Millers Lab: Again they delivered. Colors are correct, and the light in the picture is by far the best. You can see it in the boy’s face.
Walmart: They darkened the image and de-saturated the colors. For some reason the eyes are a bit out of focus as well.
CostCo: They did not get the correct lighting in the image, bringing out shadows under the boys eyes and cheeks.
Mpix.com: Oddly enough they added noise to the image and as all the others except Millers Lab screwed up the light. On top of that they added red to the color of the picture.
I understand this is tough to see from a picture of a picture. You can request to see my print samples at any time. I keep them in my studio and I can easily bring them with me on location.
It is important to me that you have options. This is why I offer purchase of high resolution files and social media files alongside other wall art and products. I will even add products in for special requests if I don’t offer them already.
Some people want the control of being able to have their own images printed, some don’t. This is why I offer options.
Here is what I offer:
Peace of mind. I have done a thorough research on what print labs offer a mix of great quality and great price. You can rest assure that the wall art you purchase is of a supreme quality.
Time saver. You will spend one evening selecting your images and deciding what products you want. After that you are done, all you have to do is hang them up when they arrive. There is no procrastinating. Forgetting to back up the files when that computer crashes. And realizing it’s been 2 years and you still haven’t ordered prints.
Access to my Expertise. I will guide you through what size will work the best for the photo you pick. Some images will work better as a custom size rather than standard. Some images will loose their appeal if printed in standard sizes such as 16×20. Sometimes 16×24 is a better option.
Convenience. I go through the hassle for you of ordering the prints. Resizing them, designing your photo book and any other product you want.
So when you ask; Why Should You Buy Prints from the Photographer? It is because, I want my clients to have access to the highest quality print service the market has to offer and get the special service they deserve!
